Mafia: Definitive Edition (Europe)
In 2002, a small Czech company, Illusion Softworks, released the action-adventure game called Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. The game became a hit that spawned an entire series and indirectly led to creating the iconic Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Eighteen years later, publisher 2K Games decided to remind us how Mafia began by releasing a remake - Mafia: Definitive Edition.
Return to Little Italy
Let's start with the visuals of Mafia: Definitive Edition. Improved graphics are the remake's main innovation, and that's where the developers invested the most effort. Hangar 13 studio redid absolutely everything - textures, models, animations, and effects. They have also redrawn the interface to suit the modern display's resolution. A remake is a thoughtful approach to recreating the authentic image of 1930's America. Lost Haven and its surroundings abound in detail, each district of the city is decorated in a different style, and retro cars scurrying through the streets evoke the nostalgia of "The Godfather" movie. If Mafia: Definitive Edition were available in VR mode, it would be almost a perfect museum of the Great Depression. Along with the new graphics came new system requirements. Mafia: Definitive Edition is very demanding on the CPU, but luckily there are no severe optimization problems or bugs. The Mafia Is Eternal
The story's presentation in Mafia: Definitive Edition has become much more spectacular due to a complete redesign of all the splash screens using improved graphics. Most of the scenes feature characters acting the same as in the original game, but some moments have been changed, and now the scenes look more spectacular.A Day in the Life of Mafioso
Mafia: Definitive Edition completely repeats the entire plot of the original, even keeping the chapter divisions. The structure of the missions is similar; the developers meticulously recreated all the missions, introducing only minor gameplay changes. The remake also features redesigned shooting and driving modes to a modern standard, even allowing the main character to ride a bike. Mafia: Definitive Edition has more action, but the close combat remained unchanged. Another exciting feature of the game is the Classic mode, where the game looks closer to the original, complicating the player's life by the necessity to obey the traffic rules and make the driving more realistic. This mode is perfect for the orthodox fans striving to feel the original atmosphere of the legendary Mafia game.Open World - Available or Not?
The game is still played linearly from mission to mission, and the open world is only available in a Walking mode. Turning it on, the player can wander the world without restrictions, completing minor side quests and collecting various items. The Walking mode is not a mandatory option to choose.System requirements
